Aare River Float — Thun to Bern

DurationHalf or full day

LanguagesDE · EN · ES · FR · CH-DE

The Aareböötle is the defining Berner Oberland summer ritual — grab a rubber boat in Thun, let the emerald-green Aare carry you north, and arrive in the heart of Bern hours later. The river runs glacier-cold even in August, so Konrad brings wetsuits and knows every current, shallow, and eddy along the 30 km stretch.

Konrad holds a SWISS CANOE Level 3 certification and has guided this route more than 200 times. He leads from the water, not the bank, so he's with you in the current the entire way. The float takes 3–5 hours depending on river level and how many rest stops you want.

The Aare through the Bernese Mittelland

Thun

Put-in below the old town weir. The Aare exits Lake Thun here — cold, clear, and already moving at a good pace.

Bremgarten Forest

A 10 km stretch of forest-lined river — no roads, no buildings, just water and birch. The quietest section.

Marzili, Bern

The iconic take-out below the Bundeshaus. Locals swim here every day of summer. One of the most photographed river banks in Switzerland.

Wohlensee

Optional extension — the reservoir broadens the river into a lake with mountain views on clear days.
