The Fisherman's Full Day
Fish Lake Thun at dawn, cook the catch at noon, wine at Spiez
Dawn fishing, a cooked catch by noon, and wine at Spiez in the afternoon — this is Konrad's favourite slow-paced full day on the lake. Early start means the fish are active and the lake is glassy. By the time the group is eating, it's still only midday.
The cooking happens at the lake shore wherever possible — portable grill, ingredients prepped in advance, and Konrad handles the filleting and seasoning. The wine comes from the Spiez vineyards visible on the hillside above.
Itinerary
Dawn — Lake Thun, Spiez
The lake is flat and silent. Rods set up on the Kander delta section. Konrad explains the morning feeding window and target species.
End of fishing
Rods in. Count the catch. Konrad fillets everything on the bank.
Cook at the lake shore
Portable grill, butter, lemon, herbs and good bread. The fish goes on. Usually done in 20 minutes.
Breakfast-lunch by the water
Eat at the bank with fresh coffee and the lake to yourselves.
Spiez wine walk
Short drive to Spiez. Walk through the vineyard terraces above the bay. Konrad knows the winemaker — usually possible to taste.
Spiez castle
Medieval castle on the peninsula above the bay. One of the best-preserved in Switzerland. Optional entry or walk around the exterior.
The region
Kander Delta
Where the Kander river enters Lake Thun. The most reliable perch and trout spot below the outlet.
Spiez Vineyards
Terraced vineyards directly above the lake. Chasselas grapes, grown at this altitude since medieval times.
Spiez Castle
12th-century castle on the peninsula. The most photogenic position on Lake Thun.
